PAPUNYA TULA ARTISTS - Annual Alice Springs Exhibition

Papunya Tula Artists is proud to announce that the annual Alice Springs exhibition will be held on Friday, November 26. We hope you join us at 6pm to celebrate another wonderful year for the artists of Papunya Tula.

NGURRAKUTU - Going home
A body of work inspired by recent painting trips to sites of significance including - Ngutinya, Puntutjalpa, Palipalintja, Yurruyurrunya,Tjulnga, Karrilwarra Nyinmi Mukula, Tjuntupul, Irrututu, Yunala, Wala Wala, Marrapinti and Ngami.

NYAKULA KANYINI PIINTAPALYALPAYI KAMU WALYTJA TJANAMPA LURRTJU - Caring for artists and their families.
A selection of masterworks by senior painters from Papunya Tula Artists. Proceeds of this exhibition will go towards the Papunya Tula Artists Aged Care Program.

Art+Soul begins on ABC tonight

It's finally here. The long awaited documentary series Art + Soul starts on ABC1 @ 8.30pm tonight.
The series is a personal journey through the world of Aboriginal art, shot and directed by Warwick Thornton and presented by Hetti Perkins.

Open Weekend at the Art Gallery of New South Wales

2 October - 4 October 2010

Yuyuya Nampitjinpa, Josephine Napurrula, Kim Napurrula and Yukultji Napangati are very excited to be involved in the Open Weekend at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. The three day event is a celebration of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander art and culture and includes the launch of the new exhibition art + soul. The exhibition highlights the artists and art featured in the three part ABC Television documentary series art + soul, written and presented by Hetti Perkins and directed by Warwick Thornton. The Open Weekend includes artists and curator talks, music, films, workshops and performances. Yuyuya, Josephine, Kim and Yukultji will lead dancing workshops for young girls on Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 3-3.30pm.

Wintjiya Napaltjarri - Fremantle Arts Centre Print Award

25 September - 21 November 2010

Papunya Tula Artist is proud to announce that Kintore painter Wintjiya Napaltjarri
will exhibit in the 2010 Fremantle Art Centre Print Award. Her untitled etching is one
of 45 contemporary prints or artists' books which feature in this years exhibition.
The award winners are announced on Friday 24 September.

Desert Mob Exhibition - Araluen Galleries, Alice Springs

Papunya Tula Artists featured the work of Kawayi Nampitjinpa, Nyilyari Tjapangati, George Tjungurrayi, Mantua Nangala, Michael Reid Tjapanangka, Ronnie Tjampitjinpa, Naata Nungurrayi and the late Kutungka Napanangka at this years Desert Mob exhibition. This annual event held at Araluen Galleries features over 300 works from 38 community based Aboriginal owned and directed art centres in the Northern Territory, South Australia and Western Australia. To celebrate exhibition's 20th anniversary Basil Hall Editions in collaboration Desart released the DESERT MOB 20TH ANNIVERSARY PRINT FOLIO, which featured 40 limited edition woodblock prints from 38 of the Desart Member Art Centres.

Art of the Western Desert - Papunya Tula Artists in Idaho, USA

Following on from their highly acclaimed 2009 New York exhibit, Papunya Tula Artists in conjunction with Harvey Art Projects USA proudly present 'Art of The Western Desert' to be opened in Sun Valley, Idaho by Paul Sweeney on Friday July 2. This collection of twenty one paintings by senior and emerging artists from the remote desert communities of Kintore and Kiwirrkura will be the first exhibit of its kind held in the famous resort town of the pacific northwest region of the USA. The exhibition will coincide with a special community cultural program of indigenous film screenings, gallery talks and a public lecture by manager of Papunya Tula Artists, Paul Sweeney on Thursday July 1.

36th Alice Prize - A National Contemporary Art Award

Johnny Yungut Tjupurrula, Makinti Napanangka and Yinarupa Nangala were invited to exhibit in the 36th Alice Prize. The Alice Prize is $20,000 acquisitive art prize which this year was judged by art advisor and previous director of the Art Gallery of Western Australia Alan R Dodge AM. Kiwirrkura artist Yinarupa Nangala received an Honorable Mention, for her painting depicting ceremonies at the site of Mukula, in WA.

Makinti Napanangka - Western Australian Indigenous Art Award 2010

Papunya Tula Artists would like to congratulate Makinti Napanangka, who has been selected as a finalist in the 2010 Western Australian Indigenous Art Awards. This award is the nation's richest indigenous arts prize and showcases the diversity of art practice across the country. The Western Australian Indigenous Art Award comprises three non-acquisitive awards:

-Western Australian Indigenous Art Award of $50,000
-The Western Australian Indigenous Artist Award of $10,000
-People's Choice Award of $5,000

The Western Australian Indigenous Art Award exhibition opens on 31st July and runs until 3rd January 2011.

Wintjiya Napaltjarri - together with a fine selection of works by significant Women Artists from the Western Desert

14 April, 2010.

Papunya Tula Artists and Scott Livesey Galleries present the third solo exhibition of Wintjiya Napaltjarri. This bold and vibrant body of work depicts ceremonies at the site of Watanuma, north-west of the Kintore Community.

This show coincides with a group exhibition of significant works by female artists from the Western Desert. This exhibition includes works by senior Papunya Tula painters Naata Nungurrayi, Ningura Napurrula and Makinti Napanangka as well as works by Theresa Nowee, Kathleen Paddon and Nancy Nuninurra from Warlayirti Artists, in Balgo WA.

These exhibitions are on view until Saturday 1 May, 2010.

Eileen Napaltjarri - Utopia Art Sydney

27 March - 24 April 2010

Papunya Tula Artists in conjunction with Utopia Art Sydney is proud to present the second solo exhibition by Eileen Napaltjarri.

Eileen is the daughter of Charlie Tararu Tjungurrayi and paints the rockhole and soakage site of Tjiturrulpa which is situated in rocky hills west of the Kintore Community.

The lines in Eileen's work represent the lengths of wood collected by ancestral men and women as they travelled east towards the rockhole site of Illpilli. The wood was then fashioned into various tools including spears, nulla nulla and boomerangs.
